Minke Whales

Canadien, surface feeding Minke Whales

The feeding behaviour of whales strongly depends on their environment. The special circumstances of the St. Lawrence estuary offers the whales in this area a lot of food right at the surface. This is where the Minke Whales specialise their hunting and feeding techniques, offering us spectacular sightings.

A rare picture, taken by Jael Xandry: one of the Minke Whales showes the flipper during a surface feeding manoeuvre

Norwegain Minke Whales

Pictures for Whalesafari AS, 2011

A Norwegian Minke Whale off Andenes. One of our first ID-pictures!

They are hard to catch – the Norwegian Minke Whales are very shy and don’t like our camera.

Breaching – we observe it very often in our area due to the very windy weather. Minkes love to breach in high waves…
